“WALTER COME BACK!”
storyteller - William A., 32, plan drawer
This is my personal eyewitness on someone close to the family being captured by nature spirits. In fact, it happened to my eldest brother.
It all began during one crisp Sunday morning many years back when we were kids. That day, my father bundled the entire family off to Pantai Manis beach in Papar for a picnic. We had been looking forward to this outing for a long time, so naturally we were very excited.
The bright and breezy day is still clear in my mind like it happened only yesterday. I remember the weather and the water were perfect then, and we kids thought we’ve never had so much fun.
A little while lazed by at the beach and boredom slowly sneaked in. The space around us started to look too confining and we kids became restless. In order to make things a little more exciting, we sprang at the idea of exploring new grounds. So the three of us brothers and two kids from another family gradually strayed from the family bunch and began our little quest.
It did not take us long before our adventure started to yield an astonishing result; we found ourselves looking up at this truly enticing hill that we just had to conquer.
Racing our steps, we trekked up the hill and higher and higher we went. At some rather steep parts, we had to grip hard at the protruding tree roots to keep ourselves from falling off or rolling down the hill. The thrill of danger was exactly what we were looking for and shortly later, we discovered a trail that led to a downhill area.
We followed this trail closely until we got to the bottom of the hill, and… WOW!
The white chilly is heaven for chilly-lovers. It has been grown for hundreds of years in the State of Sabah and needless to say, is one of the top favourites. These chillies are so versatile it can be combined with many dishes such as fish (fresh or salted), chicken, beef and practically with all types of meat.
Just to warn you: White Chillies are super-hot! However, there is a variation breed which is lot less hotter to suit the tender tongues.
The recipe here is a combination of traditional Sabahan ingredients with Chinese cooking style. Do check out this marvelous dish. It is so simple and straightforward.
Let’s continue with the ghost stories where we last left….
SPIRIT OF THE OLD HOUSE
storyteller - Raphael S., 34, social service officer
I must say that I’m a real coward when it comes to ghostly stuffs. Friends who knew this would purposely tell me ghost stories and then would laugh at seeing me cowered and shrinking in my seat. They loved making me look like a fool but ironically, I sometimes get the kick out of being terrorised! But it wasn’t fun anymore when I had to be alone after that though. Mind you, I’ve had a real experience with the spooky once, and certainly one that still stands in my mind until today.

What Ralph Lokos says about makeup:
“I use a wide variety of products as I do not like to limit myself to just one particular brand. They are all great brands and together, they help me achieve the look that I want – I love them all! I use Revlon, Maybelline, L’oreal, Mac, Silky Girl, Body Shop, Bobby Brown, Elianto, Avon, Shiseido, ZA and I will surely add in other brands in time to come. With the right products on hand, all you need is a masterstroke to start creating and creating without limit until you get to the point where you strongly feel the look is now perfect. I am a Borneon face myself and now that I have the opportunity to enhance the looks of my people, I feel so incredible lucky and grateful. Our looks are mostly ethnic and that means a sea of exotic faces to work on! I am not picky about my Borneon faces; I will sit down anyone who walks through the door and start to transform them! My advice: Blend well, combine creatively and select the right colours. And of course, practice, practice, practice. Good luck!”
